Here's a render of a recent design we did for a client. This living room is the entry for a 450 sqft home. You can almost feel the warmth of the sunlight on the couch! Makes us anxious for the longer days.
Designing small homes presents some challenges in making the space not feel utilitarian and crowded.
This small house has tall walls and a steep pitch that allows room for 120 sqft of walkable sleeping loft without sacrificing the ceiling height of the kitchen and bathroom below. Opting for a ladder instead of full-size stairs gives means ample room for space to relax and host.

Construction is messy and each project presents new challenges. The way through is collaboration! Good communication and empathy can make just about everything workable.
These are some in-progress pics of a recent remodel. It's not ideal but schedule issues happen- especially when remodelling.
In this case, schedule issues (both our fault and not) meant using the kitchen while it was still being worked on. In the final stages these new quartz countertops held tools and sandpaper as well as cooking oils and dirty dishes.
This kitchen had an even more temporary stage with melamine countertops and missing cabinet doors. Our client could have been upset with this and might have taken it out on us. If they had, it would have made the wrap up much more difficult and likely longer. Instead they were quick to pivot so that we could make a new plan to finish the work without more frustration. It can be tough on the ego to hand over a less than ideal project, but the client's willingness to communicate and adapt gave us the space to make sure things got finished up to our standards.
This kitchen is a gigantic transformation with all custom birch cabinets, three new windows and TWO less walls. These clients deserve all the handsome finishing that make this kitchen feel truly custom. A current favorite are the floating shelves by the sink and spice shelves next to the range. 😎
